6 Days 5 Nights Masai Mara, Lake Nakuru, Lake Bogoria & Lake Baringo Lodge Safari

Masai Mara Lodge Safari Overview

Experience Kenya’s wildlife and Great Rift Valley landscapes on this Masai Mara lodge safari from Nairobi. First, spend three nights in the Masai Mara for extended wildlife viewing. Afterward, continue to Lake Nakuru for rhinos, then travel north to Lake Bogoria and Lake Baringo.

This is a private mid-range safari with a customized 4×4 Land Cruiser reserved exclusively for your traveling party. The standard package also includes five nights of selected lodge accommodation, scheduled private game drives, standard park and reserve fees, a Lake Baringo boat safari, meals listed in the itinerary, and bottled drinking water.

Because the itinerary combines traditional game viewing with Rift Valley lakes, it works well for couples, families, photographers and private groups looking for more variety than a standard Masai Mara-only safari.

Safari Route

Nairobi → Masai Mara National Reserve → Lake Nakuru National Park → Lake Bogoria National Reserve → Lake Baringo → Nairobi

The journey begins with the main wildlife destination, the Masai Mara. After three nights in the reserve, the route moves north through the Great Rift Valley towards Lake Nakuru, Lake Bogoria and Lake Baringo.

As a result, each part of the safari offers something different. Lake Nakuru focuses on rhinos and wildlife, while Lake Bogoria adds geothermal scenery and birdlife. Finally, Lake Baringo provides a quieter freshwater environment and an included boat safari.

Why Choose This Safari?

This itinerary combines traditional wildlife viewing with experiences that many shorter Kenya safaris leave out. First, three nights in the Masai Mara give you enough time for an arrival game drive and two full wildlife days. Lake Nakuru then adds one of Kenya’s best-known rhino habitats.

Afterward, the safari changes pace as you travel to the Rift Valley lakes. Lake Bogoria is known for its hot springs, dramatic scenery and flamingo-viewing opportunities, while Lake Baringo offers a freshwater boat safari and excellent birdlife.

Because your Land Cruiser stays exclusively with your party, you also have more flexibility over photo stops, comfort breaks, and daily pacing than travelers on a shared safari.

Wildlife & Rift Valley Experience

The Masai Mara provides opportunities to see lions, elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, cheetahs, zebras, wildebeest, hyenas and many other plains species. During parts of the migration season, large herds may enter the wider Mara ecosystem. However, exact herd locations and river crossings depend on natural conditions.

At Lake Nakuru, the wildlife experience changes considerably. Both black and white rhinos occur within the park, along with Rothschild’s giraffes, buffaloes, waterbucks, zebras and many bird species. Flamingos may also appear along the shoreline, although their numbers vary.

Lake Bogoria is less about traditional big-game viewing. Instead, the reserve is known for its volcanic landscape, hot springs and seasonal flamingo concentrations. Meanwhile, Lake Baringo supports extensive birdlife, with hippos and crocodiles also present in the wider lake environment.

Accommodation

The standard package uses selected mid-range lodge accommodation.

Masai Mara – Mara Sopa Lodge or Similar

Spend three nights at Mara Sopa Lodge, Mara Simba Lodge or a comparable mid-range property serving the Masai Mara.

Because you remain in the Mara for three nights, there is enough time to enjoy the lodge while still getting strong wildlife time. In addition, the longer stay reduces the pressure to fit too much game viewing into one day.

Lake Nakuru – Lake Nakuru Lodge or Similar

Spend one night at Lake Nakuru Lodge, Flamingo Hill Tented Camp or a comparable mid-range property.

After the afternoon game drive, the lodge provides a comfortable overnight before you continue north towards Lake Bogoria.

Lake Baringo – Soi Safari Lodge or Similar

Spend one night at Soi Safari Lodge or another confirmed mid-range property in the Lake Baringo area.

Unlike the Masai Mara or Lake Nakuru, Baringo has fewer conventional mid-range lodge choices. Therefore, Tunza Tours will confirm the exact property before payment and explain any differences in location, standard, or price.

Transportation

The standard package includes a private customized 4×4 Land Cruiser with a pop-up roof.

Throughout the safari, your traveling party has exclusive use of the vehicle. Therefore, you do not share transfers or game drives with unrelated guests.

In addition, the Land Cruiser provides good ground clearance for national park roads and the less-developed sections around Bogoria and Baringo. For groups of six or seven travelers, however, soft-sided luggage is recommended because storage space can become limited.

Masai Mara Lodge Safari Price

From USD 1,450 Per Person Sharing

The lowest advertised price applies when 6–7 guests travel together in one private 4×4 Land Cruiser on selected low-season dates.

Because this is a private safari, smaller groups pay more per person. This is because fewer travelers share the vehicle, fuel and driver-guide costs.

Peak Season From KES 154,500 pp

Eligible residents should also request a separate rate because resident conservation fees differ from Kenyan citizen pricing.

What Your Quotation Will Confirm

Before payment, Tunza Tours will confirm the exact lodges, room arrangements, private Land Cruiser, park and reserve fees, Lake Baringo boat safari, meals and complete safari price.

Optional Activities and Upgrades

Masai Mara Hot-Air Balloon Safari

Add a sunrise balloon safari over the Masai Mara at additional cost. However, advance booking is recommended during peak and migration periods, as availability can be limited.

Maasai Cultural Experience

You can arrange a community visit during your Masai Mara stay. The experience remains optional so you can decide whether it suits your interests and schedule.

Specialist Lake Baringo Birding

Dedicated birders can request a specialist guide or a longer boat excursion. In addition, you can add extra birding time to the itinerary if requested before booking.

Luxury Lodge Upgrade

Travelers who prefer higher-end accommodation can upgrade to properties such as Mara Serena, Sarova Mara, The Cliff or Sarova Lion Hill.

Additional Safari Night

You can also add another night in the Masai Mara or Lake Baringo if you prefer a slower itinerary.

Best Time to Travel

This safari operates throughout the year. January to March generally offers warm, relatively dry conditions, while April and May bring greener scenery, fewer visitors, and lower lodge rates.

From July to October, demand increases considerably in the Masai Mara because this period overlaps with the wider Great Migration season. However, reserve fees and lodge prices also rise during these months.

November and early December can provide greener landscapes and fewer peak-season crowds. Meanwhile, flamingo numbers at Lake Bogoria vary according to water conditions and food availability. Lake Baringo boat activities can also change with weather and lake conditions.

Therefore, specific wildlife concentrations or migration events cannot be guaranteed.

Good to Know Before Booking

This is a private safari, so the Land Cruiser remains exclusively with your traveling party. However, weather, wildlife movements, road conditions and park regulations can still affect the daily schedule.

Unlike a standard Big Five-only safari, this itinerary combines wildlife viewing with birding and Rift Valley scenery. The Masai Mara remains the main big-game destination, while Lake Bogoria and Lake Baringo provide a different experience focused on landscapes, birdlife and lake environments.

In addition, Lake Bogoria’s geothermal areas require particular care. Therefore, always remain within approved viewing areas and follow your guide’s instructions.

Booking and Payment

To receive an accurate quotation, provide your preferred travel dates, number of adults, children’s ages, nationality or residency category and room preference.

Because this is a private safari, group size directly affects the per-person rate. The USD 1,450 starting price applies to 6–7 guests traveling together on selected low-season dates.

Before payment, Tunza Tours will confirm the lodges, room arrangements, private Land Cruiser, park fees, Lake Baringo boat safari and complete package price in writing.

Cancellation and Changes

Cancellation and amendment conditions depend on the travel dates, confirmed accommodation and supplier policies. In particular, peak, migration and festive bookings may carry stricter deposit and cancellation conditions.

Tunza Tours will provide the applicable terms before payment. In addition, we strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance.

Arrive around lunchtime or early afternoon, depending on traffic and road conditions. After check-in and lunch, enter the reserve for your first private game drive. Look for elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, antelopes and predators such as lions and cheetahs before returning to the lodge for dinner.

Meals: Breakfast, Picnic Lunch & Dinner
Activity: Full-Day Private Game Drive
Accommodation: Mara Sopa Lodge or similar

After breakfast, leave with a packed picnic lunch for a complete day of wildlife viewing in the Masai Mara. Your driver-guide will choose the route according to recent sightings, wildlife movements, road conditions and your interests.

The day may include open plains, river habitats and areas known for predator activity. Depending on the route, you may also reach the Mara River, where hippos and crocodiles are often present. Enjoy lunch at an approved picnic area before continuing through the afternoon.

Day 3 Second Full-Day Masai Mara Safari

Meals: Breakfast, Picnic Lunch & Dinner
Activity: Full-Day Private Game Drive
Accommodation: Mara Sopa Lodge or similar

A second full day allows you to explore areas that were not covered on Day 2. Your guide may focus on big-cat territories, elephant herds, river systems, photography opportunities or other productive wildlife areas according to recent sightings.

During the broader migration season, wildebeest and zebra movements may influence the route. However, exact herd locations and river crossings depend on natural conditions and cannot be promised.

Day 4 Masai Mara to Lake Nakuru – Afternoon Game Drive

Approximate Distance: 230–260 km
Estimated Driving Time: 5–6 hours
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Accommodation: Lake Nakuru Lodge or similar

After breakfast, check out and travel through the Great Rift Valley towards Lake Nakuru. The standard itinerary does not include another Mara game drive on Day 4, which keeps the reserve-fee structure transparent and allows enough time for the transfer.

After arrival and lunch, enter Lake Nakuru National Park for an afternoon wildlife drive. Look for black and white rhinos, Rothschild's giraffes, buffaloes, waterbucks, zebras and birdlife before continuing to your lodge for dinner.

Day 5 Lake Nakuru to Lake Bogoria & Lake Baringo

Approximate Distance to Bogoria: 85–110 km
Estimated Driving Time: 2–3 hours
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Accommodation: Soi Safari Lodge or similar

After breakfast, leave Lake Nakuru and travel north towards Lake Bogoria National Reserve. Explore its volcanic scenery, hot springs and geothermal areas while looking for flamingos and other birdlife when conditions are suitable.

Always follow your guide's instructions around the geothermal areas because the water and surrounding ground can reach dangerous temperatures.

After the Bogoria visit and lunch, continue the short journey to Lake Baringo. Check in at your lodge and spend the remainder of the afternoon relaxing or enjoying informal birdwatching beside the lake.

Day 6 Lake Baringo Boat Safari – Nairobi

Approximate Distance to Nairobi: 270–290 km
Estimated Driving Time: 5–6 hours
Meals: Breakfast & Lunch

After breakfast, enjoy an included boat safari on Lake Baringo with an experienced local guide. Look for African fish eagles, kingfishers, herons, cormorants and other waterbirds. Hippos and crocodiles may also be seen depending on conditions and wildlife movements.

After the boat excursion, begin the road journey back to Nairobi with an appropriate lunch and comfort stop. Arrival is normally expected during the late afternoon or early evening, followed by drop-off at your confirmed hotel, residence or airport location.
