What to Wear for the Safari

  1. Neutral-Colored Safari Clothing
Wear light neutral shades such as khaki, beige, olive, brown, or light green to blend naturally with the environment and avoid attracting insects or disturbing wildlife during game drives.
  2. Lightweight and Breathable Fabrics
Amboseli can become warm during the day, so cotton or moisture-wicking fabrics help keep guests cool and comfortable throughout outdoor activities and safari excursions.
  3. .Comfortable Safari Walking Shoes –Closed, comfortable walking shoes or lightweight hiking boots are ideal for bush walks, lodge movements, airstrip transfers, and cultural visits.
  1. Warm Layer for Early Morning and Evening Drives
Morning and evening game drives can be chilly, especially during open-vehicle safaris. A light fleece jacket, shawl, or safari sweater is recommended for warmth and comfort.
  2. Wide-Brimmed Hat or Safari Cap –A stylish safari hat or cap helps protect guests from direct sun exposure during daytime activities while adding to the classic luxury safari look.
  3. Sunglasses and Sun Protection Accessories – Polarized sunglasses and sunscreen are essential for protecting the eyes and skin from Amboseli’s bright sunlight during game drives and outdoor experiences.
  1. Elegant Casual Wear for Lodge Evenings
Luxury lodges such as Tortilis Camp Amboseli offer sophisticated dining experiences, so smart casual evening wear is ideal for dinners, sundowners, and relaxation at the lodge.
  2. Light Scarf or Dust Protection Wrap
A lightweight scarf or wrap is useful during game drives to protect against occasional dust and to add comfort during cooler evening breezes.

Measures and safety

  1.  Always Follow the Professional Safari Guide’s Instructions
During game drives and wildlife encounters, you must strictly follow the directions of professional safari guides to ensure maximum safety while observing animals at close range.
  2.  Maintain Respectful Distance from Wildlife
Even during luxury private game drives, animals should never be disturbed, chased, or approached too closely. Respecting wildlife preserves their natural behavior and ensures safe viewing experiences.
  3. Carry Valid Identification and Flight Documents
Since this is a fly-in safari, you should keep your passports or identification cards, air tickets, and travel documents safely accessible throughout the journey.
  4. Stay Hydrated throughout the Safari
Amboseli’s climate can become warm during daytime game drives. You are advised to drink plenty of bottled water provided by the lodge and safari vehicle to remain comfortable and energized.
  5. .Protect Yourself from Sun Exposur –Luxury safaris involve extended outdoor experiences. Wearing sunscreen, sunglasses, wide-brimmed hats, and light, breathable clothing helps protect against strong African sun exposure.
  1. Avoid Loud Noise During Wildlife Experiences
Maintaining silence during game drives and bush breakfasts enhances wildlife sightings and creates a more intimate luxury safari experience for all guests.
  2.  Travel with Appropriate Luxury Safari Wear

Upon arrival at the Amboseli airstrip, you are warmly welcomed by your professional private safari guide and transferred in a luxury safari vehicle to your lodge.

Your safari begins as soon as you leave the airstrip. You could spot elephants, zebras, giraffes, wildebeests, and gazelles along the way.

At the lodge, you’re greeted with cool drinks, chilled towels, and a smooth check-in before heading to your suite. The rooms are spacious, with safari-style decor, king beds, private decks, outdoor showers, and views of the wilderness and Mount Kilimanjaro.
Savor a pleasure-seeking lunch prepared with fresh, local ingredients.

Unwind with a spa or wellness treatment.

In the late afternoon, you’ll set out on your first game drive in Amboseli National Park. Look out for elephant herds with Kilimanjaro behind them, lions resting under acacia trees, cheetahs on the hunt, buffalo near the wetlands, hippos in the swamps, and many birds around the marshes.

Your guide will help you find wildlife across the plains and swamps, sharing interesting facts about the area’s ecosystem.

As the sun sets, enjoy a drink in the wilderness with fine wines, cocktails, champagne, and snacks.

Return to the lodge for a candlelit dinner under the stars, then relax in your luxury suite for the night.

Day 2 Exploring Amboseli

Before sunrise, enjoy freshly brewed Kenyan coffee, tea, and pastries in your suite, then head out for an early morning game drive.

Start your day with a morning game drive to explore Amboseli’s landscapes and look for elephants, lions, cheetahs, and wetland birds.

During your drive, you’ll pass grasslands with grazing animals, swamps with elephants and hippos, and seasonal lakebeds that are great for photos. Your guide will explain what you see along the way.

The experience is personalized, so you can take your time watching and photographing the wildlife.

Have a special bush breakfast out in the wilderness, with beautiful views of Amboseli.

Spend your afternoon relaxing with spa treatments, a massage, or simply enjoying your private deck with views of Kilimanjaro.

Later, visit a Maasai village for a close-up cultural experience. Meet Maasai elders and community members, and learn about their traditions, ceremonies, beadwork, music, and dance. Head back to the lodge for a multi-course dinner with fine wines and attentive service.

Finish your evening around the campfire, listening to stories, music, and the sounds of nature.

Day 3 Amboseli to Nairobi

On your last morning, begin with a sunrise game drive. At dawn, you might see mist over the swamps, elephants in front of Kilimanjaro, and predators returning after a night of activity.

After the drive, have a relaxed breakfast and soak in your last views of the wilderness from your terrace.

Your safari wraps up with a private ride to the airstrip for your flight back to Nairobi. As you fly over the plains, enjoy one last look at Amboseli and Mount Kilimanjaro before heading back to the city with memories to last a lifetime.
